Ryan's Rainbow

October 4, 2015

Irene Lastra, captain of Ryan’s Rainbow, was inspired to take part in Alex’s Million Mile after her daughter, Susan Osborne, successfully rode her bike in last year’s Alex’s Million Mile. Ryan's Rainbow is in memory of Ryan Kerr, who was the inspiration for "Ryan's Case for Smiles," an organization that makes and donates fun pillowcases to kids with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Irene writes, “The Million Mile gave me the opportunity to invite both our families and friends to unite in this great cause.  Our three-generation team is scattered geographically.  Ryan's Rainbow team members are logging on miles in PA, CT, GA, WA, HI, CO, Ireland and the Netherlands. Teammate Susan Osborne held a successful lemonade stand at her office raising $120.  With this form of event, the Million Mile gave participants the opportunity to set their own mileage and fund raising goals, decide how and when to do their miles and their method of fundraising.  With every mile we raised awareness of the need to continue Alex's legacy - "One cup (and one mile) at a time" until better methods of treatment and cures are found.”
