Jimmy Kimmel is known for bringing laughs to late night, but he's also used his comedic talents to bring levity to a charity event that means a lot to him.
The talk show host, 47, has been attending the L.A. Loves Alex's Lemonade Culinary Cookout for the past five years, and he's also taken a turn as the fundraiser's emcee.
Last week, Storefront told readers about a Lindenwold event to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, the Pennsylvania-based charity that raises awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.
Gainesway Farm, 3750 Paris Pike, is holding a fundraiser from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday to help Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, which is working to find a cure for cancer in children. They'll have bouncy castles and slides for kids to play on. And Afleet Alex, winner of the 2005 Preakness and Belmont stakes, will come out and join the fun a few times during the event.
Today is also a good day for CBS3 and sister station CW Philly in terms of charity efforts outside their broadcast headquarters (1555 Hamilton St.). There will be a full day of fundraising there for Alex's Lemonade Stand, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a host of famous names on site.
The students of Eden Hall Upper Elementary's sixth-grade aquatics biome, a cluster of homeroom classes, took one class project to heart and raised more than $1,400 for children with pediatric cancer.
“They really realized the magnitude of the problem,” said teacher Dana Lestitian. “This is a real-world application.”
Zoe Miller, a 12-year-old Campbell resident, follows the motto, "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade."
Zoe will be making lemonade by the gallons to raise funds for childhood cancer research June 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. and again June 14 from 9 a.m. to noon outside the Recycled Bookstore, 275 E. Campbell Ave.
EZ Powell recently celebrated a major milestone with a vacation in Hawaii, where he had the chance to swim, play on the beach and do most of the things other 5-year-old boys might do for fun.
“We had a fabulous week,” said Alex Porrata, EZ’s mother. “I’m so grateful that EZ was strong enough to do the things he wanted. It was his wish.”
Jarhya Ussery, a childhood cancer survivor, and her family will be hosting an Alex's Lemonade Stand to help raise funds for childhood cancer research on Saturday, June 13, at 10 a.m. at O'Reilly's Auto Parts, 112 N. Lee St., Forsyth. Jarhya and her family, including her mother Charties Jones, were chosen to represent Georgia in the fundraising drive.
The Houtchings family of Wakeman has been chosen as the Hero Family State Representatives for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation's (ALSF) nations fund-raising weekend, June 12-14, 2015).
The honor is bestowed upon a family in each of the 50 states.
James and Amanda Houtchings' daughter, Kylie, at the age of six was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma, a particularly aggressive form of cancer of the nervous system.
Lauren is bright, strong and mature - she's been through more than most kids her age and is still battling a low-grade glioma. She is currently attending college pursuing a nursing degree so she can help other kids with cancer.
