The students of Eden Hall Upper Elementary's sixth-grade aquatics biome, a cluster of homeroom classes, took one class project to heart and raised more than $1,400 for children with pediatric cancer.
“They really realized the magnitude of the problem,” said teacher Dana Lestitian. “This is a real-world application.”
Over the course of a week and a half, students raised $1,437.42 for Alex's Lemonade Stand, a nonprofit organization that benefits children with pediatric cancer. The fundraiser began earlier in the year with a class project.
Students in the classes of Dave Harlan, Lisa Tiller, April Lichina and Lestitian researched charities and nonprofits that they thought were worthy to donate to and tried to persuade their class in a presentation why their charity was the best. Each of the aquatics biome's four classes voted for a winner.
