The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. Inc. (A&P) is taking part in its 11th campaign with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by Alexandra "Alex" Scott to find a cure for childhood cancers.
UC Davis stem cell scientist Paul Knoepfler has been awarded $250,000 for glioma research from an organization begun 15 years ago by a 5-year-old girl with a deadly form of childhood cancer.
Firebirds Wood Fired Grill exceeded its goal of raising $75,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, and donated $100,000 to the cause. Ballantyne Corporate Park donated $306 toward the cause.
The annual fundraiser encourages communities and businesses to host lemonade stands and raise funds for childhood cancer research.
Firebirds locations in StoneCrest at Piper Glen and SouthPark participated in the event.
The Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar at 2200 Ohio 53 North, Fremont, is participating in the fight against childhood cancer in July.

This is the second year Mia Lameo has been selling lemonade. This year she’s serving at the Felittese Festival grounds with a little help from her friends.
“It’s a good feeling. Definitely. Because it’s going to something with a cause,” said Elizabeth Majewski who is helping Mia with the lemonade stand.
Maggie is the definition of a survivor. She battled osteosarcoma at 9 years old and thankfully came out the other side. She is now a full-time member of Team Alex planning and running special event fundraisers.
