Values for healthy children

Each laboratory and lab handbook has slightly different reference values for each type of blood test. There is also variation in values for children of different ages. For instance, in children ranging in age from newborn to 4 years, granulocytes are lower and lymphocytes are higher than the numbers listed below. The following table lists blood tests and blood count values for healthy children.

WBC differential:  
      Segmented neutrophils 40 to 70%
      Band neutrophils 1.5 to 8%
      Basophils <0.3%
      Eosinophils <0.5%
      Lymphocytes 20 to 50%
      Monocytes 2 to 10%
Liver function tests
ALT (sometimes called SGPT) 0 to 48 IU/L
AST (sometimes called SGOT) 0 to 36 IU/L
Bilirubin (total) 0.3 to 1.3 mg/dL
      Direct (conjugated) 0.1 to 0.4 mg/dL
      Indirect (unconjugated) 0.2 to 1.88 mg/dL
Kidney function tests
Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) 6 to 20 mg/dL
Creatinine 0.5 to 1.5 mg/dL
Electrolytes
Carbon dioxide (CO2) 24 to 30 mEq/L
Chloride 98 to 108 mEq/
Glucose 70 to 115 mEq/L
Potassium 3.5 to 5.0 mEq/L
