Little Ellie Walters was just 7 months old when she was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. Primary treatment worked—but just for a little while. Ellie quickly relapsed. Now, she is 3 years old and in remission.

Ellie’s grandmother heard about Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) on a morning news show and immediately registered the Ellie Strong Lemonade Stand. For the past two years, the Walters family has held their stand in their front yard raising over $8,000 for childhood cancer research. Last year, they expanded their stand to include friends who hosted lemonade stands of their own.

While the Walters make extensive use of their personal network to drive donations to their event page and in-person guests on the day of their stand, they also use social media to reach out to new people.

“We love meeting new people who stop by to donate! It is great to be able to educate them on pediatric cancer and what Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is doing to make a difference,” said Tara Walters, Ellie’s mom.

Tara’s Tip: Be prepared for random people stopping by and be ready to educate them on childhood cancer and the need for research. Use the ALSF childhood cancer infographic to help share the facts! Not only does it drive more donations, it also raises awareness!
