Our son Gregory Lowman III, whom we call Trey, was an active, bright, and loving two-year-old. Trey had just started daycare. He was potty trained and could recite his ABCs, colors, and more. Trey had experienced intermittent nausea and loose stools. In February, his symptoms worsened, including increased fatigue and a loss of appetite.

He was often misdiagnosed, with his symptoms attributed to common illnesses like viral infections. Then, on March 7th, 2023, our lives changed forever.

After numerous tests, a CT scan revealed a 9x8 cm mass on our precious boy’s brain. Trey was rushed into emergency surgery the next day, which lasted seven hours. On March 10th, 2023, our son was diagnosed with Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT). ATRT is a rare and aggressive brain cancer that affects around 58 people, primarily children, nationwide each year. The 5-year survival rate for ATRT is low, and there is currently no cure.

Trey underwent an extensive treatment plan, including four rounds of chemotherapy with high-dose treatments, a second brain resection, stem cell transplants, and 29 rounds of proton radiation. While this journey drastically changed our son's life, nothing could ever change his spirit. He completed his treatment on November 19th, 2023, and is now in remission. Since Trey’s treatment and journey into remission, we’ve found inspiration to establish the Grey for Trey Hero Fund. This fund honors Trey’s resilience, heart, strength, and fight with ATRT.

It is truly a blessing to partner with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. We aim to raise awareness while providing hope, healing, and support for families affected by pediatric cancer. Donations to the Grey for Trey Hero Fund will go directly to Flashes of Hope, which provides free, uplifting portraits to celebrate the lives of children battling cancer and contributes to pediatric cancer research. No family can fight cancer alone. Together, we can make a difference and fight cancer as a community!
