Dr. Vijay Sankaran

Vijay G. Sankaran, MD/PhD, collaborates with fellow Crazy 8 researchers in barcoding pediatric leukemia for therapeutic purposes. Dr. Sankaran is the Jan Ellen Paradise, MD Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, as well as an Attending Physician in the Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.

Dr. Sankaran has received a number of awards for his work using human genetics to better understand the process of blood cell production, including the 2018 Gale and Ira Drukier Prize in Children’s Health Research, the 2019 Seldin-Smith Award for Pioneering Research from the American Society of Clinical Investigation, and the 2022 E. Mead Johnson Award from the Society of Pediatric Research.

Research like this is critical to understand childhood leukemia, as we have traditionally lacked clonal resolution in studying these diseases and, as a result, could not define why some cancer clones resist therapies. This work could help us define why this might be the case and develop improved therapies as a result.
