The role of KAT7 in T-cell leukemia progression
Mentor Name: Daniel Herranz Benito
Our lab has recently identified an important role of SIRT1 promoting leukemia progression by its activation of KAT7. However, nothing is known yet about the role of KAT7 in T-ALL. To this end, we will use genetic tricks and expertise available in the lab by which we can completely eliminate KAT7 from leukemic mice in vivo by generating and using what is called Kat7 conditional knockout leukemias. This unique tool will allow us to unequivocally address the effect of KAT7 in T-ALL progression in vivo, as well as to investigate its mechanisms further down the road. Overall, our results might establish KAT7 as a novel important therapeutic target in T-ALL treatment, which could lead to novel efforts to target KAT7 in pediatric leukemia patients in the near future.
