Patients with the rare kidney cancer, renal medullary carcinoma, generally present with metastatic disease. Our understanding of this process unlike breast cancer or other cancers, remains limited. Why a cell decides to attach on plastic or live in suspension in RMC remains unknown. We have a cell line model where we can ask this specific question. We propose to look at what proteins go up or down and model it in our respective cell lines to understand if these features help control whether a RMC cell sits on plastic or lives in suspension. Our understanding of this will start to shed light in the metastatic nature of this rare cancer.
