Learn More »Jacob was diagnosed on May 12, 1998 with stage IV neuroblastoma. He received several rounds of chemotherapy, nine hours of major surgery, a stem cell transplant, radiation, monoclonal antibody therapy and cis-retinoic acid (Accutane) over the course of two years. As of February 2020, Jacob has been in remission for over 20 years. His only residual problem has been high-pitched hearing loss and dental issues. He has needed multiple dental implants and cosmetic crowns due to the chemotherapy induced trauma to his teeth during his treatment. He gets yearly visits and blood counts from a special survivorship clinic, but otherwise leads a normal life. Jacob graduated college in May of 2020 and is now attending pharmacy school. This would not have been possible without the groundbreaking research and medical care from the neuroblastoma doctors at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He continues, along with his family, to raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand with lemonade stands at HyVee grocery stores throughout Kansas City every year. Since its inception in 2004, the Midwest Lemonade Days have raised over $1.5 million for childhood cancer research!
