Project Description:

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC (CHP), has a long-standing and solid tradition of contributing to early drug development for children with cancer.  Our institution is a member of the Children's Oncology Group (COG) Phase 1 Consortium and a charter member of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium (PBTC).  We also participate in pharmaceutical studies as well as our own institutional new drug protocols and innovative pilot studies.  The program at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is the only pediatric Phase 1-2 (Developmental Therapeutics) program in the region including all of western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, southern New York, and Ohio except Cincinnati.  Previous support from the ALSF has ensured the viability of the program. Continued support from the ALSF would allow us to provide experimental therapy for patients at our hospital, to expand access to patients in the region, to generate new knowledge regarding cancer treatment, and to provide travel support for families to receive experimental care at this institution.
