John M. Maris, MD
John M. Maris, MD is a member of the Crazy 8 team that is studying and targeting the oncoprotein MCYN.
As a physician-scientist, Dr. Maris treats children with neuroblastoma while also researching, studying, and working towards cures. His lab at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia specializes in translational research, which brings experimental drugs to clinical trial with the aim of finding cures. His team has performed studies that led to the discovery of neuroblastoma genes and identified who is likely to get the disease. Dr. Maris is a past ALSF grantee and member of the Scientific Advisory Board. At CHOP, he is the co-head of the Pediatric Cancer Dream Team and holds the Giulio D'Angio Chair in Neuroblastoma Research.
What excites us about our project and all the projects is curing the incurable. It's great that today four out of five children with cancer are cured, but what motivates us is that one out of five children dying is unacceptable and those are the children we need to help.
