Smart and sassy, Guinevere likes to garden, dress like a princess, dance, sing, and play with her friends. Though she’s only in preschool, her family says she already speaks like an adult – likely because of all she’s had to endure in her four short years.

When her mom, Victoria, was changing Guinevere’s diaper one day, she noticed some petechia on her knees. They did a finger prick at the pediatrician’s office and then sent Guinevere to a lab for a full blood panel. Once the results came in, Guinevere’s family was told that she needed a blood transfusion and to get over to the hospital. At the hospital, doctors took another sample and inserted an IV. That evening she received a transfusion. The next morning, on April 28, 2020, Guinevere’s family was told that she had B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Guinevere followed COG's AALL1731 protocol. Her strength and resiliency throughout the process was nothing short of amazing. She rarely shed a tear and took everything in stride. Doctors and nurses were amazed at how articulate she was at such a young age, and how brave she was through all her treatments. On June 30, 2022, Guinevere finished her treatment.

“The strength, bravery and resilience she exhibited throughout her treatment was truly an inspiration and in fact made it easier for our family to endure. Guinevere is a true warrior,” said Victoria.

Victoria also shared her advice for other families who may be facing a childhood cancer diagnosis: “It's not an easy road, so find support wherever you can. Support will come in ways you never imagined. Keep your head up and persevere. We are stronger than we know.”

She hopes that better treatment options become available that will require less time in treatment, as well as fewer long-term side effects. She looks to foundations like Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to bring awareness and additional funds that will go directly to childhood cancer research in hopes of finding a cure!
