You’ve registered. You’ve trained. And now your virtual run day is here! Virtual runs or virtual run series are great ways to enjoy a competitive running atmosphere on your own time, terms and turf! While the pandemic has necessitated the move from in-person local races to virtual, run anywhere races, virtual race series are here to stay for the long haul!
Joining a virtual run series is also a great way to make your aspirational fitness goals a reality—whether you are going from the couch to a 5K or you are striving for a half-marathon or even a marathon, virtual run series offer a progressive program to get your sneakers on the pavement and your heart pumping!
Not sure how to make the most of your run day? Here’s how to make the most of your virtual experience and experience the real-life benefits of a great run:
1. Pick your run!
If you haven’t already, register for a virtual run! Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) hosts run throughout the year, including a weekend-long running series taking place over Memorial Day Weekend. The race weekend kicks off with a one-mile challenge on Friday, followed by a 5K on Saturday, and concluding with a 10K on Sunday. Registration is easy, just head here!
2. Make your training plan.
How much and how intensely you training for your run is up to you! At a minimum, get out and walk or run a few times a week. There are lots of great resources to help you train for your run! ALSF has some free downloadable available here.
3. Recruit your friends.
Runs are more fun with friends. Recruit local friends to run with you on race day and far away friends to run in their own area!
4. Pick an inspiration to help you cross the finish line.
Need some inspiration to help you cross the finish line? Check out the stories of our amazing childhood heroes on the ALSF YouTube Channel! These children continue to work to overcome cancer and just be kids.
5. Run!
When your race day arrives, go for it, do your best and remember to keep hydrated! We have more virtual race tips here.
