At this uncertain time in our lives, it’s more important than ever to look out for each other. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have left many of us separated from our larger social circles. For Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s (ALSF) Great Chefs, this is no exception.
Chefs from all over the country have generously contributed their culinary skills to the ALSF Great Chefs events series, helping to raise millions of dollars for childhood cancer research. Now, many chefs are separated from their restaurants and their culinary team.
If you ask any one of them what can always bring people together, they’d all tell you the same thing: food.
In true social distancing fashion, our Great Chefs from across the nation have been taking to the internet to share their favorite recipes to get you through the isolated days ahead. The hospitality industry is taking a huge hit (and you can do something about it), but these chefs are choosing to infuse our lives with their passion – and reveal a few of their secrets along the way.
If you’re running out of ideas for mealtime or your culinary skills could use some sharpening, give these free lessons from the pros a whirl!
Check out what our Great Chefs are sharing:
1. Acorn Squash Soup
Just one of the many recipes Chef Franklin Becker is sharing from his cookbook Good Fat Cooking. Has a major ‘mmm’ factor.
2. Eggs Over Easy with a Tamale
Start your morning with a little spice! Let Chef Jonathan Benno walk you through the perfect over-easy eggs.
3. Chicken Quarantina
If the name isn’t enough to entice you, Chef Chris Bianco’s entertaining video lesson certainly will. And there’s more where that came from on his Pizzeria Bianco YouTube channel.
4. Easy Egg Drop Soup
Chef Tom Colicchio is sharing more than just his sourdough bread ventures. Watch a master lead you through a 4-minute lunch (we also love his video about using leftovers).
5. A Unique Breakfast Spread
Get excited about breakfast tomorrow morning by preparing this delicious-looking (and deceptively easy) ensemble from Chef Michele Forgione.
6. Homemade Biscuits
Some baking always soothes the soul. And Chef Alex Guarnaschelli has a special biscuits recipe you can try at home – no butter or kneading necessary.
7. Pork and Kraut Patty Melts
This is just one of the many recipes and video how-tos Chef Michael Symon is sharing more than daily. Make sure you peruse his Instagram stories for some extra tips too.
Ready to give these recipes a whirl? We want to see what you are cooking! ALSF has launched a social media campaign inspired by its founder, Alex Scott’s positive outlook in times of uncertainty. We want to know how you are making lemonade out of lemons during this time - whether by learning new skills, getting creative, connecting with family or friends through video chat or doing something else that puts a sweet smile on your faces! However you're making lemonade out of this situation, we want to know! Share your special moments with us on social media using the hashtag #MakeAlexsLemonade.
COVID-19 has disrupted everyday life in so many ways. For families in the midst of childhood cancer treatment, navigating a cancer diagnosis is more difficult than ever. You can help ALSF provide critical support to families as they travel for treatment and navigate cancer in a pandemic. Your donation can mean another hotel stay, another weeks’ worth of groceries and another day of peace of mind over finances for these families.
Together, we can help families navigate this uncertain time. Give today and make a meaningful difference for all children fighting this disease.
