The annual family-friendly event brings together culinary superstars from across the country for a mouthwateringly relaxed daytime setting – all proceeds to go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF)
In his continuing efforts to raise funds and awareness for the fight against childhood cancer, Philadelphia’s own Chef Marc Vetri will host The Great Chefs Event Philadelphia on Saturday, June 8. This exclusive culinary event, presented by Northwestern Mutual and Volvo, will bring together more than 40 superstar chefs from across the country to whip up signature tasting dishes at Urban Outfitters HQ in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Back by popular demand, the family-friendly time frame will remain 1 to 4 pm and benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). An interactive Kid Zone will also be featured.
Hand-selected chefs by Marc Vetri himself include friends and colleagues from LA, NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, DC and more to share their signature dishes (see below for the full chef list). Together under one “roof” in Philadelphia, the chefs will donate their time, talent and food, creating delicious samplings of their own personal flare. Participants include Jen Carroll (Philadelphia), Nick Elmi (Philadelphia), Jose Garces (Philadelphia), Alex Guarnaschelli (NYC), Jon Shook & Vinny Dotolo (LA), Greg Vernick (Philadelphia), Rocco Whalen (Cleveland) and many more renowned chefs. 2019 Mixologists also include Neal Bodenheimer (New Orleans) and Naren Young (NYC). Also back by popular demand for its 2nd year will be a Beer Garden. Breweries including Yards, Victory, Sly Fox and Roadhouse Brewing Co. will be serving up their signature brews.
In addition to the delicious food, drinks and fabulous auctions, Liz and Jay Scott, parents of founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott, will share the story of how Alex and her lemonade stands inspired a national fundraising movement leading to innovative childhood cancer research.
Fourteen years ago, Marc Vetri and Business Partner Jeff Benjamin met Liz and Jay, were moved by Alex’s story and wanted to find a way to help. The first Great Chefs Event was created, bringing eight local chefs and 100 guests together and raising $50,000 for ALSF. Since it debuted in 2005, The Great Chefs Event Philadelphia has inspired similar culinary fundraisers in New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles. In 2018 alone, the Great Chefs Philadelphia event raised more than $340,000.

About Childhood Cancer
Childhood cancer is a general term used to describe cancer in children occurring regularly, randomly and sparing no ethnic group, socioeconomic class or geographic region. Childhood cancer extends to over a dozen types of cancer and a countless amount of subtypes. Just a few of these cancer types include: Ewing sarcoma, glioma, leukemia, lymphoma, medulloblastoma, neuroblastoma, osteosarcoma, retinoblastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma and Wilms’ tumor. In the United States, childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15. Every day, approximately 250 kids around the world die from cancer, accounting for 91,250 losing their lives to these cancers every year.
About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000. 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501©3 charity, has raised more than $150 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding nearly 1,000 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
