Well, it’s official - summer is over! We are now entering the fall, and a very important time for the childhood cancer community – September, which is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This month and its cause seem to fly under the radar, and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, along with several other childhood cancer charities, is working diligently to change that. We need your help! There are lots of ways that you can support ALSF and the battle against childhood cancer in September and help us raise the profile of the awareness month. Here are just a few ways that you can get involved, and make sure to follow our Twitter and Facebook pages for new ways to help each and every day throughout September!
Host a Lemonade Stand
Utilizing Alex’s original fundraising idea, volunteers everywhere can host an Alex’s Lemonade Stand during the month of September. Hosting a stand is an easy and fun way for children of all ages to make a difference in the lives of kids with cancer, and provides a way for kids to help other kids their age battling the disease.
ALSF is partnering with American Greetings to enlist volunteers across the country to host Strawberry Shortcake Alex’s Lemonade Stands throughout the awareness month. All volunteers who sign up to host the berry special lemonade stands will receive specially branded materials, the opportunity to win a Strawberry Shortcake product pack, and for each stand registered, Strawberry Shortcake will directly donate $50 to Alex’s Lemonade Stand.

Skydive for the cause
For supporters looking for a big way to show their allegiance to the cause, Leap for Life, a worldwide fundraising skydiving initiative, will invite volunteers to skydive for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation on September 24 & 25, 2011.Participants who choose to take the leap, can sign up to skydive at a dive center in their area, create a fundraising page, and invite their friends and family to show their support on the designated dive days. Last year, over 100 divers participated, and this year hopes to exceed that number as divers take to the skies to show their support for the childhood cancer fight.

Show Your Support Online
For those who are not able to host a stand, jump out of a plane or run a race, there are still ways to show support online, through social media or even by texting. To raise awareness for childhood cancer and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, supporters can post messages to their Facebook or Twitter pages or text “Lemonade” to 85944 to make a $10 donation. Additionally, Avvo (www.avvo.com), a place where people get health and legal questions answered by rated doctors and lawyers, will donate $5 to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for every health question asked on its site during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Whether it’s a question about cancer, or any other health issue, participants will receive an answer from a doctor, and directly help raise money for childhood cancer research.
