Lyla is a fun loving, energetic 3-year-old. She loves music and dancing, especially Katy Perry and Nick Jonas. Lyla and her two-year-old sister Nora love to dance and sing around the house. Lyla also loves to play with her baby dolls, taking care of her “sick” babies at her pretend clinic.

In September 2014, Lyla’s whole family became sick with the same bug. After about a week, Lyla’s parents noticed that Lyla was the only one who wasn’t getting better, and they took her to her pediatrician. The pediatrician ordered blood-work and sent the family to Westchester Medical Center that same night. Lyla’s mom remembers that call from the pediatrician as “the worst call of our lives,” because the pediatrician said something was definitely wrong. The next day, Lyla was diagnosed with Pre B ALL, and she is still in treatment today.

Lyla went through 32 rounds of chemo, multiple medications, and is now two months into her 18 month maintenance. Lyla wants to grow up to help other kids like her, who are sick in the hospital or at home, and she can’t wait to start school.

Even though she is so young, Lyla has kept a smile on her face throughout treatment. She looks forward to each clinic visit to get to see her clinic family and friends, and has never complained about going to the doctor.

Lyla’s mom wants other parents to know that after a childhood cancer diagnosis, “life will never be the same as before, but you will adjust to the new normal. You will always cry and worry, but it gets easier.” To Lyla’s family, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation represents hope for a cure, and hope that no babies should ever have to fight these fights.

Quote: “Lyla is an amazing soul and has a heart of GOLD. Fight like a girl!  Baby, you’re a firework...after the hurricane comes a rainbow!”
