A popular hangout for kids is partnering with a childhood cancer foundation to raise money for research. This coming week, the Monkey Joe's on Airport Thruway will donate more than 10% of admission and concessions sales to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
Monkey Joe's locations across the country are designating June as the month to help raise funds for childhood cancer research.
According to the American Childhood Cancer Organization, an estimated 250,000 new cases of cancer affect children under the age of 20 worldwide annually.
Monkey Joe's hopes their fundraising efforts will help.
"Monkey Joe's is one of the main attractions for kids here in Columbus, Georgia," Caprisha Battle, lead manager at Monkey Joe's, says. "And so we just think it's important for us to uphold the health of our children. So, it's good way to give back to the community."
Battle also said you don't have to play to give. There will be a donation jar right inside the play land. You can also make donations to Monkey Joe's fundraising efforts here.
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation first emerged in 2000, when 4-year-old Alexandra Scott wanted to sell lemonade to raise money to help find a cure for children with cancer. Alex died in 2004, but since her death, the foundation has grown to raise more than $100 million toward cancer research and funding nearly 500 pediatric cancer research projects nationwide.
