An 8 year old boy from Carson City, Nevada is holding a lemonade stand Saturday as part of "Alex's Lemonade Days". This is a nation-wide event held the second week of June every year to raise money for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation which supports childhood cancer research and support for families affected.
The foundation explains in their "About Us" section that the organization and the "Lemonade Days" event sprung from the imagination of a young girl named Alexandra "Alex" Scott. She was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a certain form of childhood cancer, just before her 1st birthday in 1996. On her fourth birthday she told her parents that when she got out of the hospital she wanted to hold a lemonade stand and give the money to the doctors so that they could "help other kids" like they helped her.
Alex passed away at the age of 8 in 2004 but her legacy is carried on in the Alex's Lemonade Day Foundation.
Each year the foundation picks one special family in each state to represent the organization. In Nevada, 8 year old Anthony Cox Jr. and his parents were chosen to participate. They are holding a lemonade stand at the Boys & Girls Club located at 1870 Russell Way, Carson City until 1pm on Saturday.
