Lemonade Stand Raises Money for Cancer Fight

Lemonade was available for a good cause Saturday at St. Joseph Hy-Vee.

The store hosted Alex’s Lemonade Stand, where Lexi Wilson, 9, and family members handed out lemonade in exchange for donations to fight children’s cancer.

The Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation was founded more than a decade ago to honor a girl who raised money for her own cancer battle through lemonade sales.

Now children like Lexi, who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in January 2013, set up similar stands nationwide to raise funds for children’s cancer research. Funds also pay for things like travel expenses for those seeking treatment.

“I like to sell lemonade and tell people about cancer to raise awareness about it,” Lexi said.
