Raquel Baskin was first admitted to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in February, 2007 and subsequently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).  After months of intensive chemotherapy, she relapsed.  Raquel was recommended by the doctors to undergo a bone marrow transplant to improve her overall chance for a cure.  Brett Baskin, Raquel’s nine-year-old brother, proved to be a perfect match.  On September 6, 2007, Raquel underwent a bone marrow transplant with Brett as the donor.  He courageously gave his sister the bone marrow transplant she desperately needed.  Raquel had a great response to the transplant.  She resides at home with her family and was able to finish kindergarten.

Raquel is known for her bright personality and contagious smile. She is a social butterfly and loves arts and crafts, sports and life.

Raquel has donated thousands of dollars to The Leukemia Lymphoma Society and The Children’s Cancer Society by making and selling bracelets.  She will continue to bead in the hope to help children with cancer.

Raquel’s positive attitude and outlook on life has gotten her back to the healthy, energetic girl she once was.  Raquel and Brett are both my true heroes.
