Learn More »When his family learned that Henry Aaron had relapsed soon after treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), they held fast to their faith and the hope that they would find a bone marrow donor who was a perfect match.
Having many siblings proved to be a blessing for Henry. His family rejoiced in the news that of his four brothers and four sisters, two were matches. Henry’s older sister Grace, then age 8, generously donated her marrow to him.
Happily, as a result of his treatment, Henry is now in remission and is a typical 6-year-old boy who loves to run, wrestle, swing, ride his bike, eat cookies and play with his siblings. He loves cars, especially the movie Cars. He likes to play baseball with the family and will play on a soccer team for the first time in the fall.
Henry’s mom says she would tell other families facing cancer diagnoses that, “The road is hard. There is a lot of waiting, a lot of questions needing answers and a lot of ups and downs.” However, she also encourages others to never lose hope and never give into despair.
Quote from Henry’s sister Grace:
"Happy Birthday, Henry! I am glad you survived the bad cancer days. I am glad I was able to help you, it was the best moment of my life. I am glad you are my brother. I love you. Grace"
