LOS ANGELES The entertainment industry in Los Angeles may host some of the most widely televised events in the Southern California region. But the area is also home to a broad range of events of major significance in a full range of categories, including the L.A. and Orange County fairs that together draw 2.5 million visitors, multimillion-dollar galas for museums like Lacma and MOCA, and the recently retooled Code tech conference that continues to grow.
This year’s picks for the top 100 events in Southern California include parades, trade shows, festivals, benefits, art shows, and food festivals. Among the newcomers to the list this year is Sean Penn’s benefit for Haiti, which raised a whopping $6 million in just its fourth year, as well as the All-Star Chef Classic, growing and gaining prominence in only its second year on the culinary event scene.
To choose and rank the annual events on this list, BizBash considers several factors, including economic impact, buzz, innovation, and an event's prominence within the communities it intends to serve.
