Buying a simple glass of lemonade from this stand will do more than quench thirst, it will also help support a cause.

For the ninth year, sisters Madeline, 13, and Lillian Hudnall, 9, daughters of Delanie and Eric Hudnall, are hosting an Alex's Lemonade Stand.

The efforts of the two over the years has led to more than $10,000 in donations for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, which raises money for childhood cancer research.

The goal this year is to raise $3,000, in addition to online donations that can be given by going to www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/1120182.

Madeline Hudnall started the stand because her friend, Charli Preister, battled through a type of cancer called neuroblastoma. Preister, the daughter of Brenda and Chad Preister, was just 7 months old when she was diagnosed.

She went through several rounds of treatment and is now a healthy child who will celebrate her ninth birthday next month.

The Preister family has been chosen as the Hero Family State Representative for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation's national fundraising week. One family from each state is given the honor.

The lemonade stand be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday in front of Hy-Vee. In addition to lemonade, cookies, snow cones, T-shirts and balloons are also being sold.

A raffle also will be held to win a baseball and hat signed by Kansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon.
