Alex Gordon, 2015 World Series Champion and Kansas City Royals All-Star left fielder, will lend a glove to both youth baseball players and the fight against childhood cancer with the second annual Alex Gordon Classic, taking place April 22-24, 2016 at the Mid America Sports Complex in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. The tournament, organized by Midwest Sports Productions, will invite youth boys’ baseball teams to a competitive tournament that will also raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Gordon will address the teams on Saturday, April 23.

Along with the competitive play, teams from the area are encouraged to participate in the fundraising competition to help raise funds for childhood cancer research. As an incentive, the team that raises the most money will win an opportunity to meet and take a team photo with Alex Gordon. Additionally, they will attend a Royals game with tickets courtesy of Hy-Vee, watch Royals batting practice and participate in an on-field check presentation before the game. Additional fundraising incentives will be provided to the second and third place fundraising teams as well.

“We have been thrilled to have the continuing support of baseball superstar Alex Gordon,” said Liz Scott, Co-Executive Director and mom of founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott. “The amount of awareness that Alex has brought to the Kansas City area and beyond is immeasurable, and we are thrilled that he is continuing to hold his own event.”

Alex Gordon has supported Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for ten years as a local spokesperson. The World Series champion and 4-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner participates in several activities including public service announcements airing exclusively in the Kansas City area, meeting children diagnosed with cancer and visiting lemonade stands supporting the foundation during Midwest Lemonade Days (June 3-4, 2016). In January, Gordon was honored as the Foundation’s 2016 Volunteer of the Year.
