Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Invites Supporters to Celebrate #GivingTuesday

ALSF hopes to raise $10,000 to support 20 families through the Travel for Care Program

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a nonprofit dedicated to finding cures for all kids with cancer, invites supporters to celebrate #GivingTuesday on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 by supporting the Foundation’s Travel for Care Program. On #GivingTuesday, ALSF hopes to raise $10,000 to help 20 families get to treatment.

As ALSF works to fund research that will lead to cures for childhood cancer, the Foundation knows that families need help now accessing treatment, often far from their homes. Travel for Care provides gas cards, air travel, hotel accommodations, parking vouchers and restaurant gift cards to families with children in treatment for all types of childhood cancer. It costs on average $500 for a family to travel to receive treatment.

Chloe is 12 and battling glioblastoma multiforme, a rare brain tumor. Chloe receives treatment over 300 miles away from her home. She has endured several surgeries, radiation therapy and now is part of a clinical trial. In August, ALSF responded immediately to their request for support and provided one month of hotel accommodations.

“Chloe needed full cranial and full spinal radiation, treatment only offered 300 miles from our home. I left my job of 30 years to be with my daughter. And we left our home, our family and our support system,” said Chloe’s mom, Michelle. “We searched for help with travel expenses—for help getting to the treatment Chloe needed to save her life. The only foundation who was ready to help us was ALSF.”

#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been driven by individuals, families, organizations, businesses and communities across the country and around the world. Since its founding in 2012, millions of people have come together to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live.
