In a continuing effort to raise funds for childhood cancer research and awareness, Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Advisor, Michelle Grippi Baker of Northwestern Mutual’s Jacksonville office, will participate in the New York City Marathon Sunday, November 3. As such, Grippi Baker has committed to raising a minimum of $3,500 for childhood cancer which will fund critical research through Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF).
Grippi Baker registered as part of ALSF’s charity racing team, Team Lemon, which encourages participants to complete their athletic goals with a personal fundraising coach and race training coach. Grippi Baker, who specializes in working with small businesses, enjoys running for fun and for charity. “If we keep doing this we will get to the point where we have to fundraise for something else,” said Grippi Baker. “Let’s do it!” This will be Grippi Baker’s first attempt at running the NYC Marathon.
Northwestern Mutual has been a partner of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for seven years. Launched in 2012, Northwestern Mutual’s Childhood Cancer Program is committed to finding cures, providing family and patient support and aiding those who struggle with the long-term effects of treatment. Northwestern Mutual financial advisors and employees nationwide are hosting their own Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation fundraisers in their communities across the country to raise funds and spread awareness.
About Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was fighting cancer and wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer. Her spirit and determination inspired others to support her cause, and when she passed away at the age of 8, she had raised $1 million. Since then, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement. Today, ALSF is one of the leading funders of pediatric cancer research in the U.S. and Canada raising more than $200 million so far, funding nearly 1,000 research projects and providing programs to families affected by childhood cancer.
