Bala Cynwyd, PA – Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) and Australian childhood cancer charity, Robert Connor Dawes Foundation (RCD), are partnering to co-fund important pediatric brain tumor research this year. Together, they will be supporting a high grade glioma research project through ALSF’s new Crazy 8 Initiative.
RCD is co-funding this grant thanks to sponsorship support from Northwestern Mutual Foundation who sponsored the RCD Foundation’s Annual Erg Challenge and requested that their sponsorship funds go toward co-funding a grant with ALSF.
As part of the Erg Challenge, five of the top rowing universities in the US competed in a 100km virtual erg rowing challenge for pediatric brain cancer research. The fourth annual Erg challenge was the biggest yet – raising over $70,000 for brain research. “Connor’s Erg Challenge serves as a way to honor Connor’s passion for rowing while raising needed funds for brain cancer research,” said Liz Dawes. Connor, who passed away in 2013, fought against an ependymoma which inspired his parents to create the RCD foundation as a tribute to him and other brain tumor fighters.

About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501 (c)3 charity, has raised more than $150 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 900 pediatric cancer research projects nationally. About the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation
Inspired by a big heart and brain, the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation was created in June 2013 in the memory of Robert ‘Connor’ Dawes who at just 18 years of age, lost his 16-month battle with brain cancer. The foundation is battling pediatric brain cancer, through research, care and development projects – to fund the science to end pediatric brain cancer and support patients in the meantime. Operating in Australia and the US, where brain cancer kills more children than any other disease, the foundation fund crucial research projects to improve treatment options, support young patients with at home rehabilitation like music therapy, and inspire and fund the next generation of brain cancer practitioners and researchers through development initiatives.
