For more than two years a Bettendorf boy has been on a mission to grow his hair out for charity.
Blake Anderson, age 11, was on a mission was in honor of his sister, who died from cancer when she was 13 years old.
Blake’s mom, Christina Metz-Anderson, said her daughter, Blake’s sister, had an inoperable brain tumor.
Since his sister’s passing, Blake and his mom have joined several area organizations in the fight against cancer. Blake decided to grow out his hair, despite the inconveniences that can come with long locks.
“It’s tough because you have to keep it clean all the time,” Blake said.
“I mean, he’s been called girl, he’s put up with a lot of stuff growing his hair out,” Christina said. “It was really an eye opening experience and he’s got a great personality and he’s just really rolled with it.”
Blake was able to raise more than $3,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, which is a national organization that raises money and awareness of childhood cancers.
