Andrew was diagnosed with t-cell ALL right before his 3rd birthday, in 2003.  His type of leukemia was particularly aggressive, and it was resistant to chemotherapy, causing Andrew's doctors to intensify his treatment.  He had always been a playful and curious boy, and cancer really took him out of commission for over 3 years.  He underwent daily chemo, cranial radiation, and 5 surgeries.  Despite a great deal of physical pain and isolation, and the loss of several cancer friends, Andrew faced his leukemia with a determined spirit.  

Today, Andrew is an outgoing teenager.  He is closely monitored by his "survivor" team of doctors, and takes daily medications to manage the serious side effects caused by his treatment. While the cancer caused painful neuropathy that makes some physical activities difficult, he has channeled his passions into playing the drums, photography and acting. He excels in academics and has earned many awards, including being recognized as a regional math Olympian and a Southern California spelling bee finalist.  He most enjoys hanging out with his friends and is a very sociable young man.  Andrew has an interest in genetics, and one of his life aspirations is to become a clinical geneticist and help kids with rare diseases.

it was during Andrew's first year of treatment that his family learned about Alex Scott and her plan to find a cure for cancer.  They were very moved by her determination, and joined her by having a stand in 2004.  Alex and her family continue to inspire, and the Sprague Family is grateful for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and their work towards curing children's cancers.
