Red Poppy Festival in Georgetown, Texas – April 16th and 17th, 2011

This was our second year hosting an Alex’s lemonade stand and participating in the parade at the Poppy Fest in Georgetown. My friends helped with our float – 2 bright yellow lemonade stands, a “lemon tree” and poppies. The kids waved blue and yellow cups and sang “Lemonade, Crunchy ice, fill it once, fill it twice, Lemonade, Crunchy ice, fill it once, fill it twice, turn around, touch the ground, put some money, hear the sound!” as we circled the town square. My mom and Michael dressed as lemons and lead the float. People cheered. Many recognized our cause from previous events. An amazing experience.

We also had a lemonade stand on both days. We had friends volunteer to run the stand in shifts. It was a great day for lemonade – warm and sunny! We sold over a 1000 cups of lemonade! My mom and the kids walked around with a sign that said “follow me to the Alex’s lemonade stand”! That did get the attention of many. We had to make a run to the store to restock our cups and lemonade.

We got the opportunity to speak to many people about Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and Childhood Cancer. We encouraged them to hold their own lemonade stands and support ALSF. We were touched by so many people who gave up time on the weekend to help us. The best part was they all enjoyed it. We learned what “fighting childhood cancer together” was all about. We raised $1285, just from selling lemonade!! We continue the fight against childhood cancer one cup at a time.
