It's been just over a year since I received a diagnosis of breast cancer. Cancer -a diagnosis no one ever wants to hear, a diagnosis that forever changes you. I am tolerating monthly injections and a daily medication without too many side effects. Since January; however, I have been having some very rare complications to my right lung from the radiation I received back in the fall. Thankfully, I have minimal symptoms and continue to be closely monitored. Earlier this summer I had my 1 year scans and all is well, SO, why not run another marathon?!?
I am so excited to be participating in the Chicago Marathon as a member of Team Lemon to help Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation move one step closer to finding a cure for all children with cancer! This one I'm running for the kids - every single one of them who I have taken care of during my career.
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alexandra "Alex" Scott, who was fighting cancer and wanted to raise money to find a cure. Her spirit and determination inspired so many and when she passed away at the age of 8 she had raised $1 million dollars.
You can support me by making a donation - every dollar matters! The money you donate will pay for research to find better treatments and cures for childhood cancer - a cause vastly underfunded with less than 4% of the federal government's total funding for cancer research dedicated to childhood cancer each year. Please help kids and their families by providing desperately needed hope! Thanks for your support!
XOXO,
Lara
