In celebration of Pineapple’s very first birthday, we will be hosting a fundraiser to help Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation move one step closer to finding a cure for all children with cancer. Donations will help pay for research to find better treatments and cures.
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) has been near and dear to our hearts since 2008, shortly after the foundation’s inception in 2005. As a former Starbucks employee in the central NJ area, I’ve partnered to host several live lemonade stand fundraisers and I’m excited to reconnect with the foundation virtually, and it’s cause.
Every day, there are almost 800 new cases of childhood cancer around the world. This adds up to an estimated 300,000 new cases of cancer that affect children under the age of 20 each year worldwide. And yet, childhood cancer is vastly and consistently underfunded with less than 4% of the federal government's total funding for cancer research dedicated to childhood cancers each year.
ALSF emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was fighting cancer and wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer. Her spirit and determination inspired others to support her cause, and when she passed away at the age of 8, she had raised $1 million.
The fundraiser will be going on for the the full month of January, and on Alex's birthday, January 18th (which is just two days after Pineapple's), we encourage you to wear yellow, enjoy your favorite lemon flavored beverage and help us share Alex’s story.
Thanks for your support!
With Love,
Pineapple & Shay
