Kabir is once again battling cancer after relapsing this past July. This time, however, Ayaan will be charging into battle alongside Kabir by being his donor as Kabir heads into a bone marrow transplant. Cancer might be tough, but Kabir and Ayaan are tougher! This time, they are going to kick cancer’s butt!
Kabir’s fight against cancer has been a very tough one and one that would not have even been possible as little as a decade and a half ago. Kabir has benefited from many new treatments including Dasatinib, a drug that specifically targets his chromosomal mutation, CAR-T, an immunotherapy that used Kabir’s own T-cells to fight the cancer, and now haploidentical transplant, a treatment for individuals that don’t have a perfect bone marrow match. Each of these have shown promise in the search for a cure.
Discovering and researching treatments takes time and money. Each year, there are over 250,000 childhood cancer cases globally but research is vastly and consistently underfunded. Only 4% of our federal government’s total funding for cancer research goes to childhood cancer research.
Private funding has led to huge strides in pediatric cancer care. This funding helps children liver longer, happier lives with better outcomes, shorter treatment cycles and less toxicity.
Many of you have asked us how you can help. Be a part of the cure and donate to Kick Cancer's Butt with Kabir & Ayaan.
