About Donations to the Little BWS Warrior Fund
By making donations to the Little BWS Warrior Fund at Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation in honor of Emma Boelk, you are funding research into Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome (BWS) and related disorders. This research includes developing and studying a patient registry and repository, developing and studying mouse and human cell-based models of BWS, and understanding the genetic and epigenetic changes that lead to BWS and related disorders.
Dr. Jenn Kalish, a leading researcher in the BWS community is the lead of the Scientific Advisory Committee for BWS research at ALSF. She is helping to set priorities and strategies for funding the most impactful BWS research. Read about Dr. Kalish's research recently funded by ALSF.
About Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome (BWS): BWS is a condition that affects many parts of the body. Children with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome are at an increased risk of developing several types of cancerous and noncancerous tumors, particularly a form of kidney cancer called Wilms tumor and a form of liver cancer called hepatoblastoma. Tumors develop in about 5-10 percent of children with BWS.
