In May of this year, I ran my first half-marathon, 17 years after I ran my first full marathon, yes that may be a little backward, but then again I'm not exactly a linear person.
On November 2nd I will run a 10k (6.2 miles) and on November 3rd I will run another half marathon (13.1 miles). I decided after my first half marathon that I wanted to run another one but wanted an extra challenge and that's when I saw the Disney Wine and Dine "Challenge" which is what I described above. I also thought that I would not only physically challenge myself but take to raising money for a very important cause which is Alex's Lemonade Stand.
This organization was started by Alex, a 4-year old who had cancer and wanted to raise money to help other children with cancer. By the time she passed away at 8-years old, she had raised 1 million dollars. To date over 150 million dollars has been raised and funded cancer research because of Alex's desire to have a lemonade stand at the age of 4. I was so inspired by what one child could do that I wanted to help and see how one adult could contribute to helping children going through such difficult times. Any donation helps and would not only be appreciated by me but the children and families who will benefit from the funds raised through this organization.
If you would like to learn more about why I started running and about my half marathon experience at the "Flying Pig" check out my Facebook page I have a post there from April and you will see why each step I take is meaningful.
Thank you in advance for being a part of something I've never done and am looking forward to sharing the stories once I cross the running finish lines and the fundraising finish line.
