I am running the 2019 NYC Marathon. I've never run the distance before, so I'm working my way into shape one day at a time. It is a daunting task, but each day that I run, I am inspired and motivated by the memory of my friend Maggie Elder. In 2011, eleven-year-old Maggie was suddenly and unexpectedly thrown into a fight for her life. Diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, an aggressive incurable pediatric bone cancer, Maggie valiantly battled for 8 months before succumbing to the disease. Maggie, like too many kids before her and after her fought with strength and grace and faith. It is for Maggie and the hundreds of other kids who are diagnosed each year with various pediatric cancers, that I run. I am running for all those kids who will never get to finish their race and for those who never even get to the starting line. After Maggie's passing, her family created Miracles from Maggie, a charitable foundation to "pay forward" all of the love and support they received. Miracles from Maggie supports Alex's Lemonade Stand and through that support I have learned of all the great work being done by the Foundation. Alex's Lemonade Stand, a top rated non-profit and official NYC Marathon sponsor, supports direct family assistance, development of groundbreaking treatment protocols and pediatric cancer research. Simply put, Alex's Lemonade Stand's mission is to change the lives of children with cancer. I am proud to represent "Team Lemon" this November in New York. I am asking you to join me! Toe the starting line with me; run/walk/crawl the course with me; raise your arms with me as we hopefully cross the finish line! And, most importantly, raise money with me so that someday these fundraisers are no longer necessary and so kids everywhere get to run their full race, whatever it may be! Thank you for your support. - Jim
