In June our bikes will be resting in cool, Pacific water in Florence, Oregon. Both physically and metaphorically, this marks the beginning of a journey. Thereafter, those bikes will keep moving until it touches ocean again, 3,585 miles and 27 days later, in Emporia, Virginia. A test to the human mind and spirit, our journey will cross nine states, countless variations of terrain, and a battle with mother nature every step of the way. From the day long climbs in the Rocky Mountains, to the vast Great Plains, and finishing in the unforgiving Appalachian Mountains, we will endure some of the most challenging aspects of continental America. In July, when we conclude our trek, we will have gained over 120,000 feet in elevation. In correlation, this is similar to climbing, vertically, for 23 miles! In addition, we will traverse nearly 132 miles daily, equivalent to nine hours of biking, to reach the Atlantic. With all of this, though, it is still minute in comparison to the struggles faced by those with pediatric cancer.
As we trek across the country, we hope to spread awareness about childhood cancer with our travels. Secondly, and more importantly, we strive to inspire children that are battling cancer, and give them the hope and opportunities to follow in our footsteps. No child should be spending their childhood in hospitals, away from friends, school, and play. Additionally, no parent should endure the financial strain that follows; they should be focused on one thing: their child. By donating to ALSF (Kick-it) and our journey, you will be directly assisting over 800 different research programs, supporting families, and empowering everyone to help cure pediatric cancer! Every $400 donated will fund one day of research...$2,000 funds a whole week. ALSF (Kick-It) is a wonderful organization making great strides in aiding all those afflicted by pediatric cancer. In addition, by donating to Kicking-It Across America, you are standing by two brothers’ dream of inspiring a generation: that anything is possible and pediatric cancer can be cured! We all can make an impact; every donation, both big and small, adds up. Just like Alex’s small lemonade stand, it takes a small step to make giant leaps. Donate now, and be apart of something awe-inspiring!
Finally, we would like to thank everybody for their continued support. Without our friends and family, the trek would not be feasible. Furthermore, we would like to express gratitude to the TLC class of Sandusky Central Catholic School. As we have been consumed with planning the details of the trip, this group stepped in to seek out donations. These individuals are selfless and kind hearted, volunteering countless hours finding donations on top of a busy schedules.
God Bless
