United StatesOur stand is in honor of our Friend King ... Here are a few word from Kings mom about his Journey with cancer !
I started noticing something was wrong when Kingsley was 18 months old. at this point he didn't talk too much but he would scream and hit his leg. For four and a half years I took him to different doctors specialists and ER's. Every ER we went to ask me if my son living arrangements we're steady, if there is been a tragedy, or any type of trauma in my household. They were all implying that my son had mental issues. The pain just got worse and worse and more frequent to the point he was no longer walking. At that point he was kicked out of school saying he was a liability and so I went back to the doctor one last time and threw a fit. They handed me another form for more of the same blood tests that we have had several times already, but they didn't have the form to go to the place my insurance allowed so they told me to go to the ER to get blood work done. They also at that time scheduled me an appointment at Sacramento County Mental Health. So I went to UC Davis for the first time. I hadn't gone there before because growing up in Sacramento you knew that UC Davis with the ghetto hospital. I went into the ER I explained he was no longer walking he was kicked out of school and explain the pain. they said it would be unethical to let a person leave the hospital who is not walking. this was on a Friday. they wanted to do it MRI but it was not going to be available till Monday. they kept him until Monday and perform the MRI and found the tumor in his spinal cord. a few days later they did surgery removing as much of the tumor as they could. the tumor is infused in his spinal cord so you cannot remove the entire thing without damaging sensitive nerves. After 21 days in the hospital Kingsley was finally released. we went back to get a treatment plan he would be doing 18 months of chemo and they will be putting a portacath in his chest to access these meds into him. it was a struggle at first now it's just too everyday type of thing for him. he is back in school and doing very well.
