I have fashioned my life around a verse found in The Holy Bible in the chapter of Matthew, “ For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…” With this in mind, I gear my service towards the fight against childhood cancer. Childhood cancer is among the most dreaded pediatric diseases nationwide, being the second leading cause of death in children. Despite these facts, childhood cancer is the most underfunded of all the cancer's. I am working feverishly so that no child or their family ever have to hear the words, "We don't know where to go from here." By supporting Alex's Lemonade Stand, my personal platform, we have the ability to change childhood cancer one lemon at a time. My personal experience with the cancer journey has given me the opportunity to see first hand exactly how multifaceted and intricate the cancer journey truly is. At the age of sixteen my boyfriend, Carson Sumpter, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer that is most commonly found in children. Aggressive treatment soon began but was met with very little success. As anyone can imagine, coping with cancer in a high school relationship was not covered in the pages of Seventeen Magazine. Yet, Carson and I were determined to find the positivity in this journey. Treatment after treatment, Carson's doctor began running out of options and answers. When Carson's life ended a year later, I knew my purpose was not to sit in the background. By working hand in hand with Alex's Lemonade Stand I can not wait to see different endings to a child's cancer journey.
