When
Childhood cancer is unfortunately way too common and touches too many people's lives. Our family has formed "Jogging for Joey" in memory of Joey Sudo and in honor of Ashley Trinkle, two people who bravely battled childhood cancer.
Joey Sudo was a very brave 12 year old boy from Annapolis, MD who, at the age of 7, was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer: AT/RT. Joey endured five years of very difficult treatment for his cancer including chemotherapy, surgeries, proton therapy, countless medication, a feeding tube and many, many days in the hospital going through tests, scans and therapies.
Sadly after all of the treatment Joey passed away two years ago at the very young age of 12. His loving family, including his mother, father and sister, grandparents, aunts uncles and cousins, now all have to go on everyday without their beloved Joey. No child should have their childhood taken away and not have a chance to live a full life and no parent should have to lose their child. Those five years were very difficult for Joey and his family as they lived with cancer and every day since has been equally difficult as they have had to live without him.
We wish that Joey's battle could have had the same ending as Ashley Trinkle's. Ashley, our cousin, beat childhood leukemia twice by the time she was 10 years old. It was a long and difficult fight, but now Ashley is a healthy, happy, thriving 27 year old.
Please help us help children like Joey and Ashley and their families to end cancer and find a cure. Our team is going to honor Joey and throughout the month of September which is Childhood Cancer Month, we will walk, run and bike to raise money to help children like Joey and Ashley and families like theirs. We hope to create more stories like Ashley's and less like Joey's.
