I am very happy to have run the 2014 Philadelphia Marathon on Sunday, November 23rd for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. I wasn't sure I'd make it this time, but was able to go the whole 26.2 miles for childhood cancer research. I had been derailed during training by plantar fasciitis, THEN stepping on a sewing needle that required open surgery to remove, and THEN a nasty bout of metatarsalgia in the other foot that was still giving me issues! I love the Philly Marathon and the enthusiasm of ALSF, so I pressed on and made my way to the start line anyway. A little history before I go on....
I was all set to run my first marathon in New York City in 2012 and dedicated the race to my Father, who passed away far too young after a battle with cancer. He taught me everything I know about charity, community, volunteerism, and giving back. It was time for me to step up myself and I traineed had and raised funds for cancer research in his honor. Superstorm Sandy had other plans and came along to cancel the race at the last minute!
The Philadelphia Marathon and Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation saved the day even though the race was sold out. Team Lemon took me in and I was able to run that first marathon two years ago and honor my father, while proudly helping to fight childhood cancer. I was so happy to make it through the 26.2 miles and cross that finish line for the first time and see the hard work pay off. None of it would have been possible without the amazing support of all my awesome donors, sponsors, and supporters who kept me going and joined me in the battle against childhood cancer.
There is still a lot of work to be done in the fight against cancer, so please condider a small donation for the amazing work done by Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
