Learn More »Zachary was born in 2003. He immediately had trouble with projectile vomiting and had low blood counts. Zach was life-flighted to Children's Hospital Pittsburgh when he was 2 days old where he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. At a week and a half, Zach underwent surgery to remove a tumor on his adrenal gland along with his left kidney. The surgeons thought that they had removed everything but during a routine follow-up 4 months later, a scan showed that the cancer had returned. This time the tumor was on the other adrenal gland and there were lesions on his liver. Zachary underwent 4 rounds of chemotherapy starting when he was 5 months old. Even during chemo, Zach was always a happy little boy who could light up a room with his smile. He was also, and still is, a fighter. He refers to his surgical scars as his "battle scars."
Today, he is 6 years old and cancer-free! Zach is definitely our hero!
