For the past three years, Oliver White’s family has been making regular three-hour trips between their home in upstate New York and the hospital where Oliver, 5, is being treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). His last date for chemotherapy will be on December 6, 2014.

His mom Elizabeth says sometimes she can’t believe that her son has been in treatment for three years already. She would tell someone else facing a child’s cancer diagnosis that the “journey seems like one you will never finish…It may seem impossible, but it is not! YOU CAN DO THIS!! Your little hero has no choice, so you have no choice but to be strong for them!”

Oliver has an adorable smile that “could light up a room” and bright blue eyes. He is a strong willed, tough little boy who loves to play Avengers and to play with cars.

His cancer was diagnosed in 2011 after he was taken to the hospital with a very high fever. He was referred to a larger hospital when a lung x-ray and bloodwork suggested the possibility of cancer. That night his family made the first of what were to be many three-hour drives to Burlington, VT. Oliver was admitted to the hospital the next morning and did not come home for twelve days. His mom was seven months pregnant at the time and Oliver now has 2 little brothers.

His family participated in the Million Mile Run to help raise awareness of childhood cancer and how it has affected their family. His mom hopes that someday, “my little hero will be a normal kid, with enough energy to go outside and play like his friends.”

Quote: “We are such a stronger family because of this trauma. Nothing can stop Team Ollie!”
