Throughout June, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) is sharing childhood cancer stories to honor National Cancer Survivor Month. Thanks to research advancements made possible by our generous donors, the five-year survival rate for a pediatric cancer diagnosis has risen to 84%.

While there is still work to do to find cures for all kids, here are a few inspiring survivor stories that remind us to hold onto hope:

July marks Sarcoma Awareness Month. Sarcomas are a diverse group of cancers that arise from bone or soft tissue in the body. There are over 100 different subtypes, making treatment difficult — not every sarcoma can be treated the same.

When I was 13 months old, I was diagnosed with a “one in a million” liver cancer called hepatoblastoma. By the time I was 2 years old I had endured 15 rounds of chemotherapy and three surgeries, including an 80% liver resection. 

Throughout my childhood, the side effects of cancer and its treatment put up roadblocks for me. I still continue to follow up every year with heart studies and bloodwork.
