He was a patient at the Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia while undergoing a bone marrow transplant and that is where we first heard the story of Alex Scott and her lemonade stands to help fight childhood cancer. In 2002, Reid Dale Miller lost his battle with the terrible disease but he inspired his sisters to want to do more to help the families and children like ours and Alex's in hope that no other family would ever have to lose a brother or sister to cancer. In 2005, Riley who was then 11 years old, organized a city wide day of Alex's Lemonade stands in memory of her baby brother. The event was such a success and the community was so responsive that it has become an annual event in this great town. Now, there our many children and families in our city of Bowling Green, KY involved with this event to honor and remember all of those heroes who have been touched by the world of childhood cancer. In 2006, our family suffered a second loss of another baby boy, Randon, who had the same genetic cancer type disease. We are so fortunate to live in a place that has been so caring and giving to the Alex's Lemonade Foundation. It has been the effort of the wonderful kids and adults in this community who have made this event such a success. On June 27, 2009 the 5th annual Bowling Green Alex's Lemonade Day will be held. We are partnering again this year with the great people at Simpson and Compton Orthodontics and Independence Bank to host lemonade stands all over the city and then one big Grand Stand that afternoon. Please let us know how you can help and check back often for more updates. We appreciate the support of so many and hope to be able to count on you again this year!
