FAQ

Serving up cool, refreshing answers to all your Alex’s Lemonade Stand questions!

Can anyone hold a lemonade stand?

Yes! We believe that everyone can make a difference, and we encourage everyone to get involved. Lemonade stands have been organized by families and businesses and we love to work with people of all ages. You should register your stand through our website beforehand so one of our stand coaches can help you along and send you materials to support your fundraising efforts. By registering online, you have the option for supporters who can't visit your stand or event in-person to donate online.

Can I hold a lemonade stand any time or just during Lemonade Days?

Absolutely-- childhood cancer never lets up and we don't either! We encourage all of our stand hosts to hold a lemonade stand or any type of fundraising event any time of the year. Lemonade stands are always fun to have during the warm seasons, but people get thirsty in the cold seasons too. You can hold a lemonade stand or any type of event during the colder seasons. Please check out the Get Involved  page for other fundraising ideas and resources that you can do throughout the entire year!

Can I print my own banner or sign using your logos?

Yes, we encourage stand hosts to design their own banners, flyers or signs and incorporate our logos. We also offer some downloads and printable materials, visit our Downloads page for more information.

Can people write checks when they want to donate?

Absolutely! All donors who write checks receive a thank you note and receipt from us. Make checks payable to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Do you have a letter on foundation letterhead that I can send to businesses for their support?

Yes we do! Email us at [email protected], or contact your stand coach with the specifics, and we’ll be happy to email or fax you a letter on our letterhead.

How can I get involved? Can I organize an event other than a lemonade stand?

Yes! You can get involved by hosting your own lemonade stand or any other event - collecting coins, organizing a 5K or walk-a-thon, holding a virtual fundraiser, a "yellow spirit day" - the possibilities are endless. Almost any event or activity can be turned into an Alex's Lemonade fundraiser. We encourage our volunteers to be as creative as they want in hosting fundraising events. Visit our Get Involved section -- you'll find lots of ideas for ways you can help. Then, when you've decided what you want to do, register your event on our site. You'll get your own event page you can share, and one of our fundraising coaches will be in touch within 1-2 days to offer support.

How can I set up a stand?

Setting up a stand is easy! Visit our Plan A Lemonade Stand page to learn how and be sure to register your stand as an Official Alex's Lemonade Stand.

How do I cancel my event or change the date?

If you reschedule or cancel your event, please let us know.  You can do this by contacting your fundraising coach, emailing us at [email protected] or by changing the date yourself on your event page (log into our website, go to your page and then go to "Manage Your Page" and choose "Edit This Fundraising Page").

How do I send in the donations?

It is easy to send in donations, just write a check or money order equal to all of the cash donations, and send it to:

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
PO Box 369
Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004-9943

DO NOT SEND CASH IN THE MAIL.

You may also send it to ALSF's Venmo account @AlexsLemonadeStandFoundation and include your event ID starting with "E" (ex: E1234567) in the Venmo comments

How much should I charge for lemonade?

We encourage you not to set a price for lemonade, but instead suggest to visitors that they give a donation of any amount. If someone asks, “how much for a cup of lemonade?” you can respond, “you can give whatever you would like to donate for children with cancer.” This will encourage generosity and allow those who may not have money to enjoy a cup of lemonade and learn about Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and childhood cancer. Some locations may require or be better suited for setting a price for lemonade (schools or events that have other beverage vendors), in that case, set a minimum price that seems appropriate.

We would like to hold a lemonade stand as part of our event. Do you provide the volunteers to set up and run the stand?

Usually, those interested in holding a fundraising event for ALSF plan and execute the stand on their own, wtih additional support from the Foundation - i.e., we send a fundraising kit, provide a letter of support, answer questions, etc. Our supporters hold lemonade stands and other events all over the country so it would be difficult for us to coordinate volunteers for thousands of events.

What is my Event ID?

Your Event ID is a 7-digit number we use to make sure the funds you send us are credited to your event page. Your Event ID is recorded in the confirmation email we sent you after you registered. If you've saved that email, that is probably the easiest place to find it. You can also locate it by looking at the URL, or web address, for your event page. Visit your page on our website and take a look at the address at the top. It should look something like this:

https://www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/XXXXXXX.

Those seven digits after the slash (represented here by X's) are your Event ID.

If you are having trouble locating your Event ID, give us a call at (866) 333-1213.

Where is my fundraising kit?

During the registration process, there is an option to choose to have a fundraising kit mailed to you. If you check this option, we send the kit out within 1-2 business days of receiving your registration (if you register on a Friday, the kit goes out on Monday). Kits are sent by USPS mail from Baker Industries, our fulfillment house. Unfortunately, we cannot provide tracking information because the kits are sent regular mail. If you are missing a kit you should have received, please call us at (866) 333-1213. Also, some of the materials in the fundraising kit are available electronically in the Downloads section of our website.

Who was Alex?

Alex is the inspiration behind Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004) was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer, before her first birthday. At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer.

Why are my funds not posted to my event page?

During our busiest time of the year, it takes approximately 2 weeks once we receive your funds for them to be processed into our system and posted to your event page.

Will the Foundation help me with supplies for my stand?

Once you register your lemonade stand, we will send you a few essential supplies for your stand, including a small banner and promotional materials. We encourage our stand hosts to read through our Guide to Hosting an Official ALSF Event for tips on getting all of your supplies for your stand donated.

Will you send me a lemonade stand? Do I need to build one?

No, we do not send lemonade stands, nor do you need to build one, although if you want to, you certainly can (check out our Stand Construction Blueprint on our Downloads page!). Most people use a regular table, but any table-like surface will work fine. There are many creative ways to decorate it so people will want to stop by! Also, after you register your stand, we will send you a small banner to hang at your stand so everyone knows you are holding an official Alex's Lemonade Stand.
