In September of 2014 my brother, Alex, passed away from Neuroblastoma, the same disease which took the life of Alexandra Scott whose family founded Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. ALSF works to move one step closer to finding a cure for all children with cancer and one step closer to making sure families like mine don’t lose a child or a sibling who has been diagnosed.
I was three years old when my brother was diagnosed and grew up watching him fight for a cancer free tomorrow. Alex was given a 30% chance of 3 year survival at diagnosis, but through research funded by Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, Alex lived for 9 years! Although he passed at age 14, ALSF always played a role in seeding research and treatment trials that gave me a brother.
I’m joining Team Lemon to further the goal of finding a cure. Although Alex may have been my annoying older brother at times, I watched in awe as he lived while fighting cancer, learning how to fly planes, and spending time with friends and family. ALSF was part of the reason he was a part of my life for as long as he was, so this November I want to run not only to honor my brother, Alex, but Alexandra Scott and the work that she inspired at ALSF.
ALSF is an organization that hasn’t given up on the hope of a cure and is always looking to help those that continue to fight or have yet to be diagnosed. Pediatric cancer is a disease that touches everyone and in funding research you help the greater community of children and families who have been dealt a bad hand. So, please help me in doing my part to thank all those who have helped us on my family's journey and honor those who have fought, are fighting, or will fight for a cancer-free tomorrow.
